Running multi-million dollar litigation in the confines of their dining rooms during Melbourne’s lockdown, leading litigators Robert McGirr and Danielle Snell knew the law industry would never be the same again.
“COVID-19 really amplified the legal profession’s reliance on analogue processes and archaic operations which are not always helpful and can often lead to more expense and time for clients,” Mr McGirr said
Thirty weeks pregnant with her second child, Ms Snell knew it was time to challenge the traditional law firm model. Seven months into Melbourne’s lockdown, Elit Lawyers by McGirr & Snell was born. “Gone are the days where clients should be waiting for their lawyer to telephone them back or send correspondence with information that should be accessible instantaneously,” Ms Snell said.
“Elit Lawyers by McGirr & Snell, allow our clients (and other key partners with permission) to access relevant documents so they can monitor workflows and developments in their case at any stage via our real time management software system.”
The pair will be instrumental in transforming the new norm of digital and people-focused law firms in the future. Collectively, McGirr & Snell have conducted litigation in excess of $500 million in Australia and New Zealand at both trial and appellate levels, acting for some of Australia’s most respected companies and insurers.
Mr McGirr, an industry veteran, was admitted to practice in 1978 and became one of the Victoria’s first Accredited Commercial Litigation Specialists in 1993. With more than 40 years experience in the legal industry as a Senior Partner responsible for large commercial and insurance transactions and disputes.
Ms Snell is one of Victoria’s star litigators, who has worked at several top tier law firms and on many high-profile cases. She has a passion for promoting diversity, inclusion and equality in the sector and providing a more transparent and authentic legal service to clients.
Mr McGirr said “I am thrilled to be using my experience and expertise to revolutionise the way things have always been done, and most importantly, to promote transparency, accountability and ethics in the law by utilising the latest in technology alongside new ways of working and legal expertise.”
With offices in both Melbourne and Brisbane, Mr McGirr and Ms Snell said they were delighted and proud to create an innovative operating model that empowers a new way of providing legal services.
