When David defeated Goliath
Over the past 12 months we have been involved in a “fight” that came within inches of destroying Mums Who Wine. I am sharing this very personal and raw insight with the hope of helping others who might be going through a fight too.
Whilst I can’t share all details – all I can say is our small little business (David) took on a global corporation (Goliath).
As many of you know, I am an ex-litigation lawyer, I spent most of my days in court, in the fight. Heck my nickname was “The General”. But the moment I realised that promises had been broken and we had to issue legal proceedings, I crumbled. I said to Mark (@dadswhowine) that I couldn’t fight. I had been fighting to keep a business alive for over 12 months during a global pandemic, I just couldn’t do it. And that is me who is “trained” to fight, who has 10 years litigation experience so I hate to think of my fellow small business friends who are placed in same situation without that background.
I am thankful for Mark who looked at me and said “we can do this. YOU can do this”. I also knew that if we didn’t, it would be the end of Mums Who Wine and there is still good work to be done.
So we faced Goliath, we held our ground and even though we are a business of just two people, we stood up to the fight. Honestly this was the most stressful and emotional experience for us (Mark still has the ongoing stomach ulcer to prove it).
But we did it, and absolutely could not have achieved the result we did if not for Danielle Snell and the legal team at Elit Lawyers by McGirr & Snell.
Danielle and I have known each other since Articles. To be able to go to her during one of the most emotional and stressful periods of our life and say “can you help me?” and to hear “of course I can Lozza” was the most comforting thing ever. To have someone I trusted in my corner when I couldn’t see clearly, is something I will never forget.
Danni – there are not many people who would start their own law firm at 30 weeks pregnant. But this just shows the brave woman that you are. There is a reason why you won most influential lawyer of 2021.
Thank you for helping Mark and I save Mums Who Wine. We can now continue doing the good work – empowering mothers, building community and changing lives. I am forever grateful.
